Appetizer: Potato Gratin

If you're like me and you're tired of those same old mashed potatoes then maybe you should try mixing it up and make a Potato Gratin instead. Gratin, essentially means topping of breadcrumbs and cheese. (Ooooooo.... Free French Translation! If it's wrong then it's Google's fault!) Anyway, Potato Gratin is a dish mainly composed of paper-thin sliced potatoes, milk, & cream.
Potato Gratin Recipe (Yield: 1 Serving)
2 Medium-sized Potatoes, Peeled
2 Tbsp (30 ml) Milk
2 Tbsp (30 ml) Cream
1 Tbsp (15 ml) Butter, Melted
1 Tsp of Garlic, Minced
Salt, TT
Pepper, TT
Thyme, TT
Cheese, For Topping
(If you're Filipino, like me (I'm not racist), don't be perverts! (TT= To Taste) )
Procedure:
1. Wash your hands! They're dirty!
2. Wash & peel your potatoes. Get a mandoline slicer to get those paper-thin potatoes or if you're cheap/thrifty like me and you don't want to buy a mandoline slicer then use a very sharp knife.
3. Get your ramekin and brush the melted butter to the bottom and the sides.
4. Get your minced garlic and do the same thing.
5. Layer your potatoes, milk, cream, salt, pepper, & thyme 2-3 times.
6. Top with cheese and put inside the oven.
Temp: 175-180 Celsius
Time: 20 - 30 Mins.
Tips for Success:
Try poking the gratin to make sure that the potatoes have soaked up all the liquid and are soft enough to eat. Make sure that the crust on top is crisp and brown.
REMEMBER!!!!
May or may not help you! Depends on who's reading. :)
